I agree with you 100% about one man's crap being another mans soul soup, and that much of the tripe that circulates youtube does find an audience. However the vast majority of video content on youtube is made with a viewer base of about 100 people in mind. The guidelines in this post are talored towards actually getting traction in order to make the most viewed page. Thanks for your comment :)

Cheers mate,<br

YouTube has earnt a No.3 ranking in Alexa in only 3 1/2 years which is staggering to say the least.Which points are you referring to that no longer ring true though? Baring in mind this post only skims the surface of what's needed to succeed with video online.Cheers.

Hi Jason, thanks for the comment mate.

You’re right about how far video has come as a medium, it’s become much larger than anyone thought it would with a growth curve that gets impressively bigger each day. Some points you have put forward no longer ring true with just how far this medium has come.

Very simplistic points put forward Ben.<br

Great points.
The one that got me was about the thumbnails.
I don't know that any one purposely makes the mid point of their video the most compelling unless they did it on purpose.
Thanks for the tip

Hey Ben,<br
